Or rather, it feels like 2 weeks. But really it’s more like one.
First, MSSD. Wednesday. I woke up quite early, which means 5.30 am (but they should call it pm…it’s too dark to be am), then went to school. There were a bunch of us waiting around, “talking”, and staying awake. We left in 2 vans for the Shah Alam swimming stadium (but I never really memorized the name of the place).
First impressions when I arrived? The place was impressive. 50 metre pool looked good.
Second impressions? The seats are filled with… something. Something small, numerous and brown. We sat on newspapers for the next few days.
Third impressions? The pool was not cold. That really, really suprised me. I was expecting to jump in and feel the chill on my body straight away, and then complain to everyone about the temperature and generally be sarcastic. Instead, I jumped in and felt only numb. Because the pool wasn’t cold.
It was freezing.
Anyway, I did a few laps of the pool. It was my first time swimming the 50 metres too -.-
About 8.30 or so the events started. I can remember the first event, where most of the girls finished in 1.5 minutes, but there was this girl in lane 3 who took 4.5 minutes. The whole stadium was cheering her on, Malaysian-style. As in, silence, followed by applause when she finished, then talking.
That was event 101. Mine was event 126. To my utter and complete dismay, it took about 15 minutes to finish 101, since there were multiple heats and some people were just slow.
Minutes passed.
Then hours passed.
(lots of talking with people here)
Finally, it was 10 am.
11am
12noon.
Lunch break!
This kind, kind mother of a swimmer (I forget who >.>) bought 30 hamburgers for us. Sooo kind. Best part was that there were only 17 of us. Second helpings :D
Off tangent here a little, but can you imagine ordering 30 burgers in McDonalds?
Cashier: Welcome ma’am, how can I help you today?
Kind, kind mum: 30 cheeseburgers, to go, please.
Cashier: 0.0;;
Then us big, mature, responsible teenagers walked over to a nearby Tesco mall and proceeded to eat some more.
Back to the stadium at 1pm, then warmup, then back to the seats again.
(insert more waiting here)
Event 126 happened at about 3pm I think. 50m 16-18 boys backstroke. I got 25 of 26, with 3 more absent.
Oh well, I hated backstroke anyways.
Then more waiting then I went home. It was almost 7 already, which meant I’d been outside my house for more than 12 hours. T.T
Next day was exactly the same, except I was in event 206. Only one hour of waiting! And I got 22 of 27 in 50m breaststroke, so I didn’t feel too bad about myself.
And that’s that.
